I’m excited to announce that Podman will be moving to timed releases. From now on, new Podman releases will be made on the second week of every February, May, August, and November. This consistent schedule will make integrating Podman with other projects like Podman Desktop easier and aligns with the RHEL release schedule. Patch releases will continue to be delivered whenever and as often as needed, allowing us to ship important fixes for bugs and security issues as soon as possible.
Our new release schedule is intended to be more predictable, allowing our users to know when the next release is coming. Each release will take place on a specific week and will be preceded by three weeks of release candidates for testing and verification. This will be especially helpful to projects integrating Podman, removing any questions about when the next Podman release will be available for them to test.
Our first release using the new schedule will be Podman 5.3.0, which will be released the week of November 11th. Release candidates for 5.3.0 will begin the week of October 21st. We will announce the exact dates for 5.4.0 in the release notes of the 5.3.0 release.
